Downton Abbey tea party for 'big girls' set for May 9, in Center Point
At its March 4 meeting the Center Point Friends of the Library decided why should little girls get all the fun and began planning a grown up tea party. Downton Abbey, the addictive PBS TV English series, was picked as a theme.
Local caterer Kristeena Opfer is partnering with Friends for the Library fund raiser. The party will be at her Wild Thyme Tea Room in Palo at 11:30 a.
Hunter Education Class to be held at the Benton County Conservation Rodgers Park
The hunter education class will be held at the Benton County Conservation Rodgers Park on March 28th and 29th. To register students must go to the website link on the Iowa Dept. of Natural Resources website at www.iowadnr.gov or they can go to the direct link at http://reservations1.usedirect.com/IowaWeb/ to find the class and register.
Firemen's Fish Fry March 27
The Vinton Fire Department will hold a Fish Fry on Friday, March 27 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm. at the Vinton Fire Station.
The menu includes, Alaskan Pollock, Steak Fries, Coleslaw, Bake Beans, and Various Desserts.
Cost is a Free Will Donation.
BCHS Welcomes Kathy Wilson, Director of the Granger House Museum March 28
Join the Benton County Historical Society as we welcome Kathy Wilson, Director of the Granger House Museum in Marion, for an entertaining look at the changing role of American women in the 18th and 19th centuries, including what it really means to be “straight-laced”. Discover what corsets and gun clubs have in common, how the house took on new importance for our female ancestors, and why a man’s home wasn’t really his castle, but rather his wife’s!
Kathy will be serving up an assortment of fascinating insights into Victorian life that are responsible for creating many ideas about women and the home embraced by society today—this is one program you won’t want to miss!

Blessed Hope spaghetti supper/pie auction set for April 18
The annual Blessed Hope Church Spaghetti Supper/Pie Auction will take place from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at the Post 57 Legion Hall.
The menu includes spaghetti, salad, applesauce, garlic bread, dessert and drink. All proceeds will go toward mission projects.
Tickets are $6 for adults, $3 for children age 6-12 and free for those 5 and under.
Mobile Food Pantry to open Saturday, March 14
The Mobile Food Pantry will be this Sat.March 14th. at the HACAP meal site on 4th St.
We open at 10 a.m.
We will provide boxes for groceries.
Thanks to a very generous donation and we were able to purchase 160 pounds of apples.
Thank you to everyone who has donated food and money. With the food we get from the Food Reservoir we should have a good day.
PEO Chapter HG meets Monday
PEO Chapter HG will meet Monday March 9th at 7:30 pm at Ervin Motors.
Area students invited to First Christian for Sunday night gatherings
Beginning Sunday, March 8 through Sunday, March 29---First Christian Church will open their doors from 6-8 p.m. for Middle School and High School aged students.
You are welcome to come and hang out at the church. There will be games and food!

Vinton Kiwanis Club Celebrates 100 Years at Annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday
It is certainly that time of year – a time when we are all looking forward to warmer weather just around the corner.
It is also that time of year for the Vinton Kiwanis Club’s Annual Pancake Breakfast held at the Vinton Skate and Activity Center. This year the event will be held Saturday, March 7th from 7 AM – 1 PM, with a slight change in serving times to better accommodate people who attend.

Join Naturalist Karen Phelps, an official Pope and Young scorer, as she demonstrates the proper technique to scoring antlers. Bring your deer racks or shed antlers and find out what they measure. Officially scored racks that qualify for P&Y will be entered into the record books for $35.
